What is Agentic Procurement?

Definition
Agentic procurement is the use of AI agents to run sourcing and buying tasks end to end — capturing requests, pricing, comparing suppliers, and drafting POs — with people approving key decisions.
It differs from rule-based procurement automation (RPA), which follows fixed scripts. Agentic procurement decides the next best action toward a goal and adapts when a supplier, price, or requirement changes.
The near-term wins are in tail spend: high-volume, low-value RFQs where speed and fair-value benchmarking matter more than strategic negotiation.
