What is Procurement Cycle Time?

Last updated July 2026

Definition

Procurement cycle time is how long it takes to go from a purchase requirement to a completed order or payment. Shorter cycles capture discounts and free buyers for strategic work.

Also known as: procure-to-pay cycle time

Top-performing teams reach a roughly 10-day procure-to-pay cycle versus about two weeks at the median, and manual RFQs of 3–4 days can compress to under two hours.

The tactical, tail-spend portion is where automation shortens cycle time most.

Benchmark

Top performers ~10-day P2P; RFQs 3–4 days → under 2 hours.
